Congratulations and Welcome to the United States!
In order to maintain your J-1 visa status and initiate your study program in the United States, you will now need to:
- Report your arrival to IIE
- Report your arrival to your university or host institution and attend orientation for international students
- Provide information to your IIE Regional Contact
- Print Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges (ASPE) card
1- Report Your Arrival to IIE
Your first responsibility is to complete the Foreign Fulbright Student Arrival Form and submit it electronically to IIE. You must include your address, even if this address is temporary.
Regulations of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) require you to submit this form to IIE within 15 days of the start date on your SEVIS Form DS-2019. However, IIE urges you to submit it immediately.
Please remember that you are also expected to inform IIE promptly of any change in your personal data, such as your residence address, mailing address, or telephone number; see Personal Data Update.
2- Report your arrival to your university or host institution and attend orientation for international students.
As soon as you arrive at your university or host institution, please report to the International Students Office, taking with you:
- Your passport, which contains your J-1 visa
- Your SEVIS Form DS-2019
- Your I-94 card, which affirms the legality of your entry into the United States and shows how long you may legally remain in the U.S.
Many institutions require copies of these documents before permitting you to register for classes or otherwise begin your study program.
You are expected to attend the International Student Orientation at your university or host institution, a program usually presented by the International Students Office. The orientation will provide important information about different offices on campus and life in the United States and on your campus.
If your Fulbright funding is administered by IIE, your first check will be sent to the International Students Office on your campus.
3- Provide Information to your IIE Regional Contact
Once you arrive on campus, your next step is to log back in to https://foreign.fulbrightonline.org/studentservices/sponsors and upload several required reporting documents which will be reviewed and processed by your IIE Regional Contact.
Throughout your Fulbright program, you will have a contact from one of IIE’s Regional Centers to provide academic and personal assistance; see IIE Regional Contact. Your IIE Regional Contact will be in contact with you by e-mail at the start of the fall semester/quarter and throughout your program. Throughout your Fulbright program, you will have a contact from one of IIE’s Regional Centers to provide academic and personal assistance; see IIE Regional Contact.
