Important Notice

You are required to comply with regulations of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) throughout your Fellowship. If you fail to do so, you will jeopardize your continued stay in the United States.

IIE uses the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) to maintain a record of your personal data. DHS regulations require that IIE keep your SEVIS record complete and up to date at all times. It is therefore imperative that you inform IIE promptly when you:

  • Arrive in the United States
  • Change any of the personal data contained in your SEVIS record

Arrival

Use the online Foreign Fulbright Student Arrival and Address Information Form to report your arrival to IIE. Furnish your address, even if this address is temporary. IIE will then be able to activate your SEVIS record, which is monitored by DHS; see Arrival.

Failure to report your arrival information to IIE within 15 days of the start date on your SEVIS Form DS-2019 is likely to have a serious and negative impact on your ability to travel in and out of the United States. It may also impede your ability to obtain United States visas in the future.

In addition, report your arrival promptly to your university or host institution.

Personal Data Update

Use the online Foreign Fulbright Student Information Update Form to report to IIE any addition to, or change in, the following information:

  • Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number
  • Residence address, mailing address, or telephone number

Such changes need to be reported within 10 days; see Personal Data Update.

You are also expected to report promptly to your IIE Regional Contact any other changes in your SEVIS personal-data record—for example:

  • Major changes in your personal status, such as marriage, divorce, or births of children
  • Name changes arising from marriage, divorce, or other cause, within 10 days of such changes
  • Arrival of any dependents in the United States

For further discussion, see the Fulbright Foreign Fellows Handbook: Guide to Living and Studying in the United States, pages 33-34: “Reporting to IIE.”
