Grantees from the countries listed above who are currently pursuing their original degree objectives in the United States are eligible to apply for one renewal for a maximum of two years of Fulbright funding.

Eligible grantees holding full or partial grants will be considered for renewal of the same benefits as under their current grants, provided they are making satisfactory progress in their approved degree programs and sufficient funding is available. Note: summer tuition and fees are renewable if courses are required for degree completion.

Renewal funds are limited. Therefore, all grantees should also apply directly to their U.S. universities for any tuition waivers, scholarships or other awards which are available and for which they are eligible. All grantees should also apply for renewals of any other grants they hold which are renewable, in addition to the Fulbright award.

Grantees from the countries listed above, except Mexico, who are currently pursuing their original degree objectives in the United States, are eligible to apply for one renewal for a maximum of two years of Fulbright funding. Exceptional renewals beyond two years to complete the program will need sponsor approval.

Eligible grantees holding full or partial grants will be considered for renewal of the same benefits as under their current grants, provided they are making satisfactory progress in their approved degree programs and funding is available. Any exceptions to this general policy will be communicated directly to the grantees concerned.

However, since renewal funds are limited and assurance cannot be given that all applications will be approved, grantees are encouraged to apply directly to their U.S. universities for any tuition waivers, scholarships or other awards which are available and for which they are eligible.

Grantees who have contributed personal funds toward their academic and maintenance expenses are expected to contribute the same amount of personal funds during their renewal period.

TO ALL GRANTEES: We strongly recommend that you plan to complete your study program in the shortest possible time. Should you find it absolutely necessary to have an additional summer term to complete your degree, we will give exceptional consideration to your request provided you present a letter detailing your requirements, signed by your Academic Advisor.

1 Argentina - Grantees funded through government or private institutions (Bunge & Born) must send a transcript of their academic work directly to the Fulbright Commission in Argentina. Fax: (54-11-4814-1377.) IIE will not be able to provide any renewal documentation until authorized by the Fulbright Commission in Argentina.

2 Chile – Ph.D. grantees who are receiving Fulbright support to supplement MIDEPLAN will have their Fulbright grant renewed for a maximum of one year only. Students funded through MIDEPLAN are eligible to apply for grant renewal to program completion. They must communicate directly with the MIDEPLAN for the renewal of that grant. Grantees must be prepared to look for additional sources of funding after their Fulbright grant has expired.

3 Colombia - Master's students may apply for renewal grants for two semesters, Fall and Spring only; grant amounts will be calculated accordingly. Doctoral students may apply for a 12-month renewal grant. We strongly recommend that you be prepared to look for additional funding to cover the balance of your educational and living expenses.

4 Mexico - Renewal grants are available for two academic years (for a total of three years of funding) for Ph.D. students. In general, the level of funding will remain the same as for the original grant year, but due to annual increases in university costs and living expenses, grantees are strongly advised to look for additional funding to cover expenses. Renewals are calculated for the academic year only and do not include summer support, unless otherwise authorized by the Fulbright Commission. Grantees are required to fax a copy of their transcripts directly to the Commission at 5255 55-92-30-83, ext. 124.

5 Peru - Grantees can apply for a maximum of nine months of Fulbright funding to complete their original U.S. degree objective.
